Yes, but to do this in the best way you need to calibrate both to the same reference. Keep up the good work Javs, your effort is appreciated and I will keep on following the tread. If Sony would come up with a fix and doubled their on/off I would gladly buy a Sony 4K again. The main reason for me not having a Sony 4K model in my HT is the lack of contrast comparing to the JVC, posterization/banding and I am not sure the panel degradation is fixed by Sony. And some of it comes down to the superior contrast of the JVC I think as contrast is one of the important things when it comes to sharpness. It look sharper in some pictures, but the JVC loos sharpers in most and that is a surprise. I have no brand loyalty and could not care less what brand I own (I have actually owned more Sonys than JVC´s and own one Sony and one JVC at the moment), and I have always said the Sony 4K models will look sharper with a 4K/UHD source, but the pictures here clearly shows it is not the case. He can not calibrate the contrast loss though.Ĭlick to expand. The picture I picked was with enhancements on so I think your observations is unvalid.Īs this is turning into another Sony vs JVC tread where the Sony fanboys will never give up, I do.

With this you picture will look as good as possible if the calibrator knows what he is doing.

To calibrate it good you need Sonys Pro calibration program as your Sony does not have an option for calibrating gamma. A 700 hour old Sony is screaming for calibration and your picture would look much better after. You might have a personal preference and like using the presets of your VW1000, but I can tell you from owning and calibrating many Sonys, that after 700 hours the grayscale is off the charts and it has a gamma drop from hell. I dont think any of the projectors look good as none of them is calibrated well, the Sony is clearly pushing green and I doubt Javs calibrated his JVC for the screen they where using. Lets see what magic the Lumagen can pull off.Ĭlick to expand. With this you are actually making a fool of yourself for zooming in the pictures.Īnd if the projector has the brightness and focus set right you can not calibrate it to show more detail. This is one of my favorites, if it's as bad as I have read, I will see this too I expect. Now for the grain/noise test will play Oblivion tonight as I know most have complained it is worst than the 1080 version. I've become a 4K snob already I'm afraid, just playing my 4K titles over and over. I can clearly see a marked difference in the colors, combined with the 4K detail it is intoxicating. I'm not fond of HDR but the SDR version Rec.2020 WCG 4:2:2 24 from the Lumagen is simply a new level again. Still a long way to go, the Lumagen has a lot more features that I have been able to tap into. Now that you mention it ,I do believe my level of noise is nearly absent altogether since I put the Lumagen in there. I have it reduced to nothing now and like your friend I have a Lumagen Pro 4440 in front of the JVC and it does a great job processing the 4K. The foreground in focus areas even for 1080 are usually tack sharp, would never know it was not 4K but the background for me is not. I have to numb it down otherwise it looks excited to me in the background.

I put all the Enhance ,NR, Smoothing sliders to 0. If I said it wrong I apologize, but what I thought I said was noise is increased with eshift on 1080 material. But I might if I get to test the RS4500/Z1. I owned the Sony VW1000/1100 for 3 years and I dont miss true 4K with the RS600. But the benefits the iris gives in the really low APL scenes makes it more a pro than a con for me.

This was also a problem with the Xx00 series and I hoped this was something JVC had fixed with the RSx00, it is a little better, but far from fixed. I also see this with the JVC from time to time, but when calibrated to a linear 2.4 gamma the problem is so small I accept it. Sony has a very smooth DI and so does JVC, but it has some problems with the dynamic gamma, what you see is gamma fluctuations.

A friend of mine who really hates e-shift with 1080p has now started using his Lumagen to feed his RS600 4K, because he thinks e-shift with 4K in looks really good. When fed a 4K signal e-shift can not be turned off, but it does not ad noise in the same way as when fed a 1080p signal, why I don´t know. I think it has been proven many times for you that the JVC with e-shift off does not add any noise to the picture. E-shift does not exaggerate the noise it ads noise.
